an update

it's been so long

Ah, it's been so long since I've actually sat down to write a blog entry! I miss the times :( So, I'm going to give a short update to what I've been doing lately!

Ever since the last blog post (which was a little over a month ago!) I didn;t really do well in terms of reading. I don't think I had a better reading month than last month but I managed to read some awesome books!

Why I say that October wasn't a good reading month was because I managed to read 4 books but ended up not finishing 2 books! One of which was The Diviners by Libba Bray! It was such a shame because this was supposed to be my "Halloween" read and also for the Divine Readalong me and Avra from @bookexplorers on ig decided to have. I just couldn't get into the story because it was developing in such a slow pace and I guess during that period I wasn't into reading because of all the many tests I was having.

The case of the wrong situation and wrong timing. Such a shame..

The 2nd book I wasn't able to finish was The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White. I started this book being so excited because of the Egyptian mythology involved but I couldn't get into it (again) mainly because I attended IIBF14 (Indonesia International Book Fair) this past weekend and I got quiet the number of books! Within these book purchases too, I really wanted to pick up a novel which I would be mentioning soon! I really do want to finish both these books hopefully soon since my final exams are approaching (less reading time for me Dx)

So, as I said earlier I picked up a novel from IIBF and that is my current read! It is a novel called 4 Ways to get a Wife by Hyun Go Wun! It's actually a korean romcom novel but a publishing company here translated it to my mother tongue! I was so excited to read this because I have never read a purely Indonesian novel before so I was excited for the experience and challenge! (I don't have the best Indonesian, I prefer speaking in English.... :P)

So, I believe this is all I have for this update! I hope you guys enjoyed reading about my adventures last month! Tune in for reviews soon! :D

p.s; the goodreads link for all the books mentioned above would be linked to its title!

The #DivineReadalong 2014!

Heeylo there.

So, I don't think I've mentioned it here before but I have a copy of The Diviners for a few months now and to be honest, I didn't have plans on reading it cause it's one heck of a book, and I have school so the idea of reading gigantic books- in general, was just out of the question for me.

But around a week ago, I posted a picture of The Diviners and how much I really needed to get started on this book, well through that picture I met Avra from @bookexplorers on instagram and found out that both of us really wanted to read the book!

So, we decided to host a month long readalong for this book starting from October 1 all the way through October 31! Basically, we're hosting this readalong so it'll be a much more enjoyable experience while reading this book!

So, without delaying, below are the details of The Diviners by Libba Bray!

Summary
Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City—and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult.

Evie worries he’ll discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer.

As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho hides a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened.

September 2014 Book Haul!

Book Haulin' it

It's been so long since I've written a blog entry, and I've came around to missing blogging! I've been super busy lately with school and haven't had the time or energy to type out a detailed book review :(

I'm back though, although I make no promises on being consistent with my blog but I'm trying my best to make more blog entries! To make it up to you, I present to you my monthly book haul!

So, I definitely bought less books this month as compared to August (let's just say that last month was a great month in terms of books, but deathly for my wallet) I got a total of 9 books this month! 6 of which were gifts and 3 were purchased by my own money! Let's get on with the books!

To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han Review

Goodreads Summary:

"To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister's ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all."

My Review:

I just finished this book yesterday and I still can't get over the fact that the book is really over and that I have to wait for a year for Lara Jean's story! I haven't had much luck with contemporary recently and quite frankly, I sort of went away from this genre and read more fantasy or dystopian books. I need to thank this book and Jenny Han for writing such a beautiful book about love and self discovery! I definitely learned a lot from this book and it definitely pulled me out of my Contemporary slump!

It was so refreshing to read about Lara Jean and I could definitely relate to her a lot since I am also a Junior. Lara Jean has to juggle a lot of responsibilities since her eldest sister, Margot is leaving for university and she has to take on the maternal role for Kitty, her youngest sister.

I could totally see where Lara Jean is coming from being so dependent on Margot, because throughout her life Margot is basically the only mommy figure she could look up to so when she has to leave, Lara begins feeling very uncomfortable and unsure. However, as the story progresses we could see how slowly Lara is slowly learning things by herself and taking sure decisions for herself.

I really applaud Lara as the story progresses, she was a dependent and unsure girl to being a more confident girl. It made me reflect on myself because I can find similarities between myself and Lara and after finishing this book, it made me a little bit more sure of myself and sometimes we just have to learn and take the leap of faith.

I especially loved the family bonds in this book. The book doesn't simply gloss over the fact that she has a family but it shows how much family matters to the Covey family. I loved the sister bonds between these sisters and her dad..he's too sweet!

I won't go on too much details on the love story. Actually I won't say anything about the male leads because I think it'll spoil the fun! I'll just tell you that it's really sweet how Jenny Han portrays the budding relationship!

I hope you guys would pick up this book and give it a try! The ending had me in t e a r s. All in all, I give To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han 5 stars! It is that awesome!

A New Beginning

Hi there!

I'm Shania an aspiring book blogger. I don't really know what to put here in the introductions since I'm fairly new in this whole blogging experience but I will try my best.

I decided to start a book blog after so many months of pondering on the decision to start or not to start because I'm not sure if I would have the will to maintain the blog (because I'm such a lazy person) but I guess this could be a mid year-resolution!

Mid-year Resolution #1; Maintain a book blog!

I have lots of plans with this blog; Reviews, Top 5 Wednesdays, Stacking the Shelves and many more! I also have plans to join the booktube community...but we'll have to see about that :P

I am joining the booktubeathon so I took that as an opportunity to start a book blog and blog about my first booktubeathon experience, I might film some videos too but that all depends on whether I can set up my camera in the right positions or not hahaha

Well, that's about it for my bookish beginning! I think the next post coming up would be my Booktubeathon reads :)

Happy Reading!
